Finding Your Niche
The first question you want to ask yourself is this. What is my goal? Is your goal to create a income replacing business, or am I just looking to supplement my current income?
This will help guide you in what niche you end up pursuing.
Give more weight to your passions if your looking to create a full business out of this.
Focus on lower competition (while still keeping passion in mind) if you have no long-term vision for this and want to just created a supplemental income.
Regardless, always begin with brainstorming.
Niche Market Research
Next step is to determine what is needed within your chosen markets and what sub-niches you can serve.
An easy way to do this is by using google search operators.
Keyword & Competitive Research Analysis

Now, head on over to a website called longtailpro.com
Type in all of your sub-niche keywords as well as your 3 broad keywords.
Look at the search volume as well as the keyword competitiveness of each term (KC).
Look for high volume and low KC.
Does this niche seem particularly active (from what you saw in forums and social media)? Are they asking a lot of questions they need answered?
Is this niche likely to buy products. If so, do these products solve a need and have a high price point?
Do you think targeting the main keyword is viable for ranking or should you niche down and focus on some of the sub-categories?
Can any of the categories be grouped together? Do any of the topics go hand-and-hand?
Is there enough topics within this niche to create lots of content on?
Could you find enjoyment in writing 40-50 pages of content based around this category?
Keep in mind, that it is better to dominate a market that may seem too small at first then expand outward as you grow.
It is important to understand the entry points of a marketing funnel and how to structure your content around it.

Create Your Website

Focus on producing the best content possible by answering the questions people are asking in your niche.
You will also want to make sure this content is optimized for for search engines so that it will organically drive traffic to your website. Check out the video I made teaching you exactly how to do this.
It is going to take a while before you start getting natural visits to your site from people searching on the web. I’d expect this to take anywhere from 6 months to a year to see any significant volume of visitors.
While quality content, website structure, and promotion may very well be enough to rank your websites in the search engines (It was for mine in particular) you may still need to actively get backlinks pointing to your website to give it the added boost it needs.
